Ada Charlene Jones, 85, of Tanglewood Manor, formerly of 827 Washington St., died at 11:58 A.M. Monday (Dec. 5, 2011) in WCA Hospital. She was born June 20, 1926 in High Point, N.C., the daughter of Collins and Ayerbelle Vaughn Mitchell. Prior to retiring in 1991, she was employed in the Dietary Department of WCA Hospital. In earlier years she had worked at National Worsted Mills, Bigelow?s Department Store, and Ali?s Valet Cleaners. She was a member of Blackwell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, where she had been active with the Stewardship Board. She was also a former member of Chadakoin Elks Lodge 718 and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People. Charlene was always a happy-go-lucky person who enjoyed meeting and visiting with others. She also enjoyed working in her flower garden, yard sales, and flea markets. She is survived by a daughter, Marlene J. Blandon of Decatur, Ga.; two grandchildren: Shawn Jones and Novella (Sylvester) Sims; seven great grandchildren: Tremayne (Samantha) Andrews, Bianca and Brittany Watson, Mya Jones, Ein Brown, and Syniah and Sylvester Sims; two great great grandchildren: Jaden and Kellan Andrews, all of Atlanta, Ga.; a sister, Mary Lee Cunningham of Jamestown; a brother, Frank (Janie) Mitchell of Atlanta, Tex.; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Jones, Jr., whom she married July 3, 1947, and who died May 10, 1995; by brothers Charles and Bennie Mitchell; and by a sister, Helen Crawford. The funeral will be at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in Blackwell Chapel, A.M.E. Zion Church. The Rev. Sharon Baugh, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.
