Arthur R. Wells, 78, of Celoron, died at 5:40 P.M. Sunday (March 4, 2012) in his home. He was a resident of Florida from 1979 to 1996, when he relocated to North Carolina. He then returned to the Jamestown area in 2004, where he was born Sept. 11, 1933, the son of George E. and Mary Ernewein Wells. He attended Jamestown High School. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served on active duty from 1952 to 1956, with service aboard the U.S.S. Wadleigh. He was later a member of both the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army Reserve in Jamestown. He had been the co-owner of Central Florida Propane in Orlando, Fla., and had earlier been employed by Universal Bottled Gas in Jamestown. A Life Member and Past Commander (1972-73) of John W. Tiffany Post 53, Veterans of Foreign Wars, he was also a member of the Randolph American Legion. He was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Murphy, N.C., Surviving are his wife, Marcia Malmstrom Wells, whom he married March 5, 1977; a daughter, Megan M. Wells of Cleveland, Ga.; a son, Christopher L. Wells of Cattaraugus, N.Y.; and a granddaughter, Savannah Wells of Norwich, Conn. A memorial service will be at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. The Rev. Donald Ray will officiate. Burial will take place in Florida at a later date. Visitation will not be observed.
