Carol S. Wagner, 85, formerly of 42 Gifford Ave., Lakewood, died Sunday (May 15, 2011) in the Sarah A. Reed Retirement Center in Erie. She was born Dec. 25, 1925 in Jamestown, the daughter of Walter F. and June Sweet Davis, and was a 1943 graduate of Jamestown High School. In earlier years she had worked as an assistant in the dental office of her late husband, and during World War II had been employed at the former Art Metal Manufacturing Co. She was a former member of the Lakewood United Methodist Church, was former member and past president of the Jamestown Dental Auxiliary, a former member and past secretary of the Jamestown General Hospital Auxiliary, was a former member of the Diana Lodge Order of Vikings, the Lakewood Women?s Club, the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, the YWCA Antique Study Club, the Audubon Society, and had been a volunteer with Hospice Chautauqua County. Carol will be remembered for her gentle nature, her light-hearted sense of humor, and her love of bird watching, cats, and flower gardening. She was an avid collector of American Indian baskets and rugs, enjoyed travelling to the west with her family, and spending time with her grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter, Kathryn J. (Bradley) Jacobson of Erie; a son, David B. Wagner of Tiffin, Ohio; three grandchildren: Zachary C., Hannah K., and Jonas H. Jacobson, all of Erie; and a sister, Mary Ellen Van Hout of Wicomico, Va. She was preceded by her husband of 52 years, Dr. Victor R. Wagner, Jr., whom she married May 29, 1948 in Winchester, Va., and who died Oct. 19, 2000; by a sister, Phyllis Hudson; and by a brother, James Davis. The funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald Haglund will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M.
