Donald M. “Don” Christensen, 84, of West Third Street, Jamestown, died on Friday, January 9, 2015 peacefully at his residence surrounded by his loving family. He was a loving father, grandfather, great grandfather and a devoted military man. Don was born on January 18, 1930 in Kane, PA, the son of the late Morris and Viola M. Peterson Christensen. Don was a high school graduate and also attended two years of college. Following school he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. He also served in a tour in Europe. He served in the Army from 1951- 1973 before he retired from the Army. He earned a Bronze Star, Air Medal and an Army Commendation. Don was an Inspector at MRC for twenty-five years. He retired from there in 1998. He was a confirmed member of Bethlehem Lutheran in Falconer in 1946. He was also a member of Ira Lou Spring, Post #149. Don enjoyed visiting with his friends at the American Legion. He also enjoyed spending time with his dogs. He loved Pomeranians. Don enjoyed traveling, flying and bowling. Don was preceded in death by his first wife, Earldine Christensen and two brothers, Albert and Alfred Christensen. He is survived by one daughter, Jacqueline Bardo, Jamestown, N.Y.; four sons, Donald M. Christensen, Petersburg, VA, Ronald Christensen, Jamestown, N.Y., Duane Christensen, Davidson, MI, Edward Christensen, Mayville, N.Y.; three brothers, Carl Christensen, Chula Vista, CA, Richard Christensen, Phoenix, AZ and James Robert Christensen, Jamestown, N.Y. Donald is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Donald is also survived by his wife, Susan Anderson Christensen, Jamestown, NY. Special thanks to Donald’s granddaughter Tabitha Bardo whom he loved very much and for everything she’s done. The family would also like to thank Darlene Pearson she was his caregiver. They would also like to thank Lynn and Heidi from Chautauqua County Hospice for taking care of him. Friends may call at Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, Inc., 316 East Fifth Street, Jamestown, N.Y., on Tuesday from 2-4 PM. A funeral service will be held there on Wednesday at 1:00 PM. Rev. Donald Ray, retired chaplain from WCA Hospital will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Hill Cemetery.
