Donald E. Raines, 79, of 4623 Anderson Dr., Bemus Point, passed away at 7:25 P.M. Friday (April 18, 2008) in Heritage Green Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. He was born June 10, 1928 in Jamestown, the son of George and Alice Johnson Raines. Prior to retiring in 1996, he had been employed as a final inspector at Crawford Furniture Co. for 10 years, and earlier had worked as a manager of the Tops and Loblaws markets. He was a communicant of St. Mary of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, where he had served as an usher and had assisted with the landscaping and upkeep of the grounds. He was also a member of the Lakewood Rod and Gun Club, Thomas Stone Post 1996, Amvets, and the Lucille Ball Little Theater of Jamestown, where he had also assisted in the building of sets. Always an easy-going man, he enjoyed roller skating, golf, woodworking, gardening, and landscaping. He was always interested in and supported his children?s and grandchildren?s activities, and enjoyed attending their various sporting and dancing recital events. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and the Buffalo Bills. Surviving are his wife, Rose M. Fitzella Raines, whom he married Aug. 18, 1951 in the rectory of Ss. Peter & Paul Church; two sons: Jeffrey G. (Susan) Raines of Jamestown, and Brian A. Raines of Bemus Point; two daughters: Lynn M. (David) Weaver and Lori A. (Steven) Pullan, both of Jamestown; four grandchildren: Christopher M. Weaver of Steamburg, Matthew E. Raines, and Lindsay M. Pullan, both of Jamestown, and Jennifer L. Weaver of Charlotte, N.C.; a nephew, Robert (Marilyn) Goodwin of Madison, Conn.; and two nieces: Shari Dailey of Amherst, N.Y. and Sandra Swanson of McHenry, Md. He was preceded in death by two bothers: Robert and John Raines. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday in St. Mary of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Bemus Point. The Rev. Bernard Nowak and the Rev. John Kuhlman will be celebrants. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 ? 7:00 P.M.
