Georgiana Fessenden

April 16, 1908 - August 11, 2005

Georgiana H. Fessenden, 97, formerly of Sherman's Bay, Lakewood, and Tanglewood Manor, died at 10:10 P.M. Sunday (Aug. 7, 2005) in the Lutheran Retirement Home. She was born April 16, 1908 in Oswego, N.Y., the daughter of George and Anna M. Parsons Hunt. She attended Cornell University, was a 1928 graduate of the Oswego Normal School, and received special Girl Scout training at Camp Edith Marcy in Briar Cliff Manor, N.Y. She had been an area resident since coming here in 1935 to assume duties as field captain of the Jamestown Area Girl Scouts of the U.S.A., where she supervised the work of leaders, organized new troops,conducted training courses, and was in charge of the council's day camps. She later became council director, and held the position for four years. In later years she did home school teaching for injured and ill students. She was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, where she had been a Sunday School teacher and was a volunteer with the thrift shop; and was also a member of the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and the Busti-Lakewood Golden Agers. She enjoyed reading, knitting, doing crossword puzzles, and visiting with her friends. She is survived by two sons: David L. Fessenden of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and Richard H. Fessenden of Jamestown; five grandchildren: James L. Fessenden of Oakland, Calif., Julie F. Ham of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., Andrew M. Fessenden and Elizabeth Easterlin, both of Las Vegas, Nev., and Daniel England of Beckley, W.Va.; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence R. Fessenden, whom she married April 20, 1940 in Warren, Pa., and who died Oct. 28, 1980; three sisters: Mary Hunt, Fannie Shea, and Helen Hull; and by a brother,Samuel Hunt. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Oswego, N.Y. Memorials may be made to the Chautauqua County Girl Scout Council, 2661 Horton Rd., Jamestown, N.Y. 14701; or to St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 410 N.
