Gertrude Sutton Raper, 79, of 1285 Shadyside Road, died at 1:15 P.M. Friday (April 11, 2003) in the home of her daughter in Jamestown. She was born February 21, 1924 in Morgantown, West Virginia, a daughter of Charles T. and Veronica Javosky Sutton. She was a graduate of Youngsville High School and Jamestown Community College. Before retiring in 1986, she had been employed at the former Jamestown General Hospital. In earlier years she had worked in several area restaurants and had been a care-giver for elderly persons. During World War II she had worked as a welder in the defense effort. She was a member of the Busti Federated Church. She loved her children, nature, and the outdoors. Her hobbies included reading, crossword puzzles, oil painting, gardening, and sewing. She was especially proud of her service as a welder during World War II. Survivors: Daughters - Kristine Lamar Raper, Susan G. Moore, Delma J. Grodecki Grandchildren - Nathan L., Daniel L., Andrew L., and Molly E. Moore, Mary K. and Amanda S. Grodecki She was preceded in death by her husband, Delma T. Raper, whom she married July 1, 1948 in Washington, D.C., and who died March 9, 1993; and by a sister, Drusilla J. Ross. The Rev. C. Gordon Bloomberg will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Sutton Hill Cemetery, Tidioute, Pa.
