Hazel A. Whitcomb, 86, formerly of 81 Hazzard St., died at 11:45 A.M. Thursday (Dec. 22, 2005) in Heritage Park Health Care Center. She was born Oct. 18, 1919 in Watts Flats, the daughter of William and Hattie Chapman. In earlier years she had been a farm and furniture worker. Surviving are four sons: Henry (Sandra), Paul, Leroy, and Earl Whitcomb; a daughter, Effie Johnson; and several grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Whitcomb, and by a sister, Alice Sturgeon. A memorial service will be at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. The Rev. Gerald Haglund will officiate. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
