Helen Chase

Helen L. Chase, 85, of 3484 Old Fluvanna Rd., died at 8:40 P.M. Monday (Aug. 9, 2010) in Heritage Park Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing Center. She was born April 3, 1925 in Waterford, Pa., the daughter of Otis and Sadie Hess Hodges. In earlier years she had been employed as a waitress and cook at the Fluvanna Fountain Bowl, and had been a volunteer at the Fluvanna Library. She enjoyed playing cards and family picnics, and loved her dog ?Puppy?. Mrs. Chase is survived by a son, Timothy E. Chase of Jamestown; two daughters: Martha L. Reno of Fort Pierce, Fla. and Mary E. Thomas of Port St. Lucie, Fla.; eight grandchildren: Sarah L. Morrison of Sherman, Thomas G. and David M. Reno, both of Gainesville, Fla., Amy S. Chase of Frewsburg, Ashley Glass and Laura Everitt, both of Stuart, Fla., Joseph Glass of Orlando, Fla., and Brian E. Chase of South Carolina; and six great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward M. Chase, whom she married Jan. 10, 1943 in the old First United Methodist Church in Jamestown, and who died March 18, 2002; a son, Thomas M. Chase on Jan. 5, 1985; a sister, Irene M. Chase on July 23, 2007; and an aunt and uncle, Ida and Orlando Hodges, by whom she was raised. The funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. Friday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. The Rev. Dayle Keefer, pastor of Fluvanna Community Church will officiate. Burial will be in Fluvanna Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
