James Turney

James W. Turney, 84, of 3614 Rte. 430, Bemus Point, died at 6:28 P.M. Saturday (Oct. 25, 2003) in his home. He was born November 16, 1918 in Charlotte Center, a son of Elton E. and Myrtle Willson Turney. A graduate of Cassadaga High School, he was the founder of Turney's Sanitary Service, which operated until his retirement in 1986. In earlier years he had been a self-employed dairy farmer. He was a former member of Fluvanna Volunteer Fire Department. Always a hard worker, he maintained a constant smile and a sense of humor, especially when things were going wrong. He enjoyed crafting pens and pencils from wood, which he had entered in several judges shows. In addition to woodworking, he enjoyed reading, especially history and science topics. Survivors: Wife - the former Evelyn Douglas Cronk, whom he married July 11, 1945 in North East, Pa. Sons - James E. and Stephen D. Turney Granddaughters - Kimberly T. Phipps, Mary T. Phelan, Alison E. and Amanda J. Turney Great Granddaughter - Devon A. Slaven Sister - Jane M. Peterson He was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Turney, and by 2 brothers: Millard and Kenneth Turney. Rev. Dayle Keefer will officiate at the service.
