Martha Hitchcock

The Rev. Martha ?Marty? Wheelhouse Hitchcock, 74, of 19 Kipp St., formerly of Gerry, stepped into the presence of an awesome God at 12:20 A.M. Monday (Dec. 18, 2006) in Heritage Park Health Care Center. She was born Sept. 9, 1932 in Buffalo, and was the adopted daughter of the Rev. Albert and Genevieve Parsons Wheelhouse. A 1950 graduate of of the last high school class of Roberts Wesleyan High School in N. Chili, N.Y, she also attended Roberts Weslyan College. She was a member of the Acapella Choir, played basketball, was chaplain for the Ministerial Association, and traveled with Gospel teams. She was ordained as an exhorter and later as an elder by Bishop L. R. Marston. She had been employed over the years at General Motors in Rochester, the Big N store in Rochester, and last at Truck-Lite Co. in Falconer She held offices in the Gerry P.T.A., the Gerry Home Bureau, and Gerry TOPS. She had also taught Sunday School and Bible studies, and had served as an election inspector in the town of Gerry. She served as a volunteer at several youth camps, and as a youth evangelist for Roberts Wesleyan College Rev. Hitchcock was an avid student of prophecy and spent her life giving the word to many to personalize the Bible. In later years she was involved with prison ministry sharing the Gospel with men and women behind bars. She was a Godly mother, a precious grandmother, and a loyal friend. She loved the Lord more than life itself, and her desire was that no one be left behind. "O What a Savior." She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Milton J. Hitchcock, whom she married June 29, 1957 in the Gerry Free Methodist Church; two daughters: Monna Jean Dorman and Marla J. Hitchcock, both of Jamestown; a son, Matthew A. Hitchcock of Jamestown; 13 grandchildren: Nicole, Shanna, Brandon, Joshua, and Amber Hitchcock, Jordan Eckwahl, Shekinah, Chenoa, and Autumn Davis, and Morgan Dorman; and a sister, Marilyn Aradine of Brooksville, Fla. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a precious son, Marshall W. Hitchcock, and by a sister, Patricia Wooley. A graveside service will be at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in Lake View Cemetery. Visitation will not be observed.
