Minerva Laughlin, 92, of Gilberds Street, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away on Monday, April 24, 2017 at her residence. She was born on June 24, 1924 in Oxford, N.C., the daughter of the late Ernest and Charity Jones Foster. Minerva graduated from Oxford High School. Following high school she went to college in Durham, N.C. She was a teacher’s aide at Samuel G. Love Elementary School for over twenty years. She then spent her time as a volunteer at WCA Hospital. She was a member and sang in the choir at Emmanuel Baptist Church. Minerva was also a board member of the American Red Cross, member of LINKS and worked on the board of elections. She enjoyed gardening and traveling. Minerva is survived by her husband, Mannie J. Laughlin, her son, Anthony Laughlin of Palm Harbor, Florida, three nephews, Lewis E. Laughlin III, whom was her primary caregiver and his wife, Amy both of Jamestown, N.Y., Charles (Doris) Harris and Lewis Green, four nieces, Sue Laughlin of Jamestown, N.Y., Hilda (Leroy) Carpenter, Ella Jean Harris and Vickie (Keith) Togans In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a brother, James (Rene) Foster, three sisters, Hallie Mae (Frank) Howard, Inez (Ernest) Harris and her twin, Ervia (Marshall) Green; one nephew, James (Jamelle) Foster, Jr. and one niece, Carolyn Moseley. Family and friends may call at Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, 316 East Fifth Street, Jamestown, NY on Friday from 5-7 PM. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM at the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 53 West 23rd Street, Jamestown, NY. Rev. LeRoy Walker, pastor of Emmanuel Baptist Church will officiate.
