Reta Marks

Reta R. Marks, 82, of 810 Washington St., died at 12:11 P.M. Friday (June 11, 2004) in her home. A Jamestown resident since 1958, she was born January 29, 1922 in Steer Creek, W. Va., a daughter of James L. and Nary Beckett Smith. Prior to retiring in 1995, she had been employed in the housekeeping department at the Jamestown Holiday Inn for 15 years, and in earlier years had worked at the former Matador Motel. She was a member of the New Covenant Assembly. She enjoyed gardening and will always be remembered for the care that she gave to her family. Surviving are two daughters: Barbara J. Garvey of Ashville and Bonnie L. Noyd of Jamestown; a son, Jimmy N. Marks of Ashville; ten grandchildren: Shadeen Pate of Texas, John Garvey of Frewsburg, Jimmy N. Marks, Jr. and James Garvey of Ashville, and Gena Garvey, Morgan, Ladena, Rebecca, Tammy, and Kristina Marks, all of Jamestown; sixteen great grandchildren; a brother; James Smith of Virginia; and four sisters: Alice Lytle and Peggy Skube of Ohio, and Nell Clowser and Sylvia Dobbins, both of West Virginia. She was preceded in death by her husband, Forest B. Marks, who died May 22, 1972; a daughter, Marlene Marks in 1941; a son, Forest D. Marks on July 23, 1990; and by two brothers: Fred and Lewis Smith. The funeral will be at 7:00 P.M. Monday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home. The Rev. Trevor Coburn, pastor of New Covenant Assembly will officiate. Burial will be in Crooked Fork Cemetery, Baxter County, West Virginia.
