Robert D. “Bob” Nieto, 57, of Stowe Street, Jamestown, N.Y., passed away on Monday, July 4, 2016 at residence. Bob was born on July 9, 1958 in New York City, N.Y., the son of Porfirio and Socorro Santaliz Nieto both of Orlando, FL. He was raised and educated in New York City. He attended Peter Stuyvesant High School in Manhattan, an exclusive public high school open only to those who score high enough on an entrance exam. . Bob graduated from Cornell University, College of Arts and Sciences, with a BA in economics in 1980 and also graduated from Brooklyn Law School in 1983. Commissioned as an officer in the US Navy in January 1984. First duty station was Naval Education Training Center, Newport, RI. Second duty station, NLSO Groton, NAVSUBBASE, New London (May 1984- June 1986). Naval weapons Station Earle, Colts Neck, NJ (June 1986 – September 1987) Bar Admissions, State of New York, date of admission: January 6, 1984 and State of Florida, date of admission: May 5, 2003. Bob was a member of the First Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee, a deacon and also was in the choir. He was an active member of the Masons of Mount Moriah. He enjoyed being part of the Washington Artillery Civil War Reenactment Unit, 1995-2002, commanding officer and board member, member of Friends of the National Parks at Gettysburg, 1995-2002, member of Civil War Preservation Trust, 1995-present, Board member and officer of several Resource Center affiliated corporations, 2005- present. He enjoyed traveling to Myrtle Beach, S.C., Virginia Beach, VA and Florida. He especially he enjoyed his trip to Europe with Theresa. He enjoyed playing Chess and spending time with his grandchildren, Bob was employed with Naval Legal Services Office, Naval Submarine Base New London, Groton, Connecticut as a Judge Advocate from 1984-1986, Naval Weapons Station Earle, Colts Neck, New Jersey as a Staff Judge Advocate from 1986-1987, Chautauqua County Law Department, Gerace Office Building, Mayville, N.Y., as Assistant County Attorney and Assistant DSS Attorney from 1987-1991, Drake, Sommer, Loeb, Tarshis and Catania, Newburgh, N.Y., as an Associate from 1991- 1993, Law Office of Robert D. Nieto, Jamestown, N.Y., private practice from 1993- 1995, NYSARC, INC. Chautauqua County Chapter D/B/A The Resource Center, 880 East 2nd Street, Jamestown, N.Y., as Corporate Counsel from 1995- 2002, Law Office of Robert D. Nieto, Kissimmee, FL private practice in areas of corporate, matrimonial, probate, commercial litigation and landlord and tenant. Part- time Florida Dept. of Revenue (child support) attorney from 2003- 2005, Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office, Chautauqua County Courthouse, Mayville, N.Y., prosecuted over a thousand criminal cases, including felonies, in Jamestown City Court, County Court and Town Courts. Presented cases to the grand jury. He had the highest caseload of all ADA’s in the office during the period of his employment, from 2005-2007, Eighth Judicial District, Unified Court System, Jamestown City Court, as an Associate Court Attorney (Trial Part), from 2007-2016. He is preceded in death by his wife, Theresa Logan- Nieto whom he had been with since 1987. She passed away on April 13, 2016. He’s also preceded in death by a child who died in utero, Chiquita. In addition to his parents, he’s survived by one son, Ryan W. (Cassandra) Logan, of Norfolk, VA and their children, Ryan Alexander “Alex” Logan, Taralyn Logan and Gideon Logan, and by a daughter, Crystal (Vince) Culbertson, of Elizabeth City, N.C. and their children, Vince Culbertson, Jr. and Isabella Culbertson, two sisters, Marisol Noriega, of Hempstead, N.Y., and Ami Norris, of Orlando, FL; two nephews, Ronnie and Jason Moschetto, of Orlando, FL and one niece, Lori Noriega, of Hempstead, N.Y. Friends may call at Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home, 316 East Fifth Street, Jamestown, N.Y. on Friday from 6-8 PM. A masonic service will be held there at 5:45 PM. A funeral will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, 358 East Fifth Street, Jamestown, NY. Pastor Michael Childs, pastor of the church will officiate.
