Roosevelt F. ?Smokey? Ferguson, 84, of 36 W. Twelfth St., died at 10:48 A.M. Friday (March 2, 2012) in his home. He was born Oct. 1, 1927 in MacBeth, W.Va., the son of Roosevelt F. Sr. and Rosa Lee Thomas Ferguson. He was a graduate of Buffalo High School in Man, W.Va., and was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War. Prior to retiring in 1990, he had been employed as a machinist by Marlin-Rockwell Corp. for 35 years. A long time member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church, he had served on the Board of Trustees, and as a member of the Kitchen Committee and Senior Choir. He was also a member of the Community Choir of Jamestown. An excellent cook and baker, he enjoyed bowling and being involved in the affairs of the church. Surviving are a sister, Joan Ferguson of Jamestown; and a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great great nieces and nephews, and great great great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and step mother, Mabel Leeper Ferguson, he was preceded in death by five sisters: Nicie E. Gracie, Thelma J. Gordon, Theresa J. Ferguson, Lena Mae Leeper, and Carolyn Van Hook. The funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday in Emmanuel Baptist Church. The Rev. Leroy Walker, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Soldiers Circle of Lake View Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Tuesday in Powers, Present & Sixbey Funeral Home.
